The procedure happens in two steps:

First Implant placement - While the implants (the posts inserted into the jaw) need between 6 to 16 weeks to secure in the mouth, there should be little to no downtime for you.

You might experience a mild soreness or swelling for the first few days. It's nothing an over-the-counter pain reliever can't handle. Also, a diet of soft foods and liquids for the first few days to a week or so might be recommended.

Once the implants have healed, you'll be ready for phase two.

Second Placement of the crowns - That's the whole next step. You will simply have the crowns placed over the implant posts and secured into place.

As you can tell, there really is no reason not to get them if you want and need them. The longest time involved is the time it takes for the implants to secure in place. In the meantime, you can go about your normal activities.
